Ilmar Gahramanov: Braids, Knots and Yang-Baxter equation
I will review the theory for the construction of topological invariants for knots and links from the Yang-Baxter equation. I will begin with a short introduction to knot theory and exactly solvable models in statistical mechanics and continue with Braid groups, Temperley-Lieb algebras, and Yang-Baxter equation. Then I will discuss how the knot invariants can be obtained by applying results of exactly solvable lattice models. The last lecture will be devoted to recent progress in the subject and to a discussion of open problems.
